Get Ready to Celebrate!
On July 4, 1776, the United States declared independence from its mother country, England. Every year, Americans celebrate their freedom in different ways. Many people take this Federal Holiday and spend it with their family. Usually, there are parades in the morning featuring fireworks, local police, firemen, soldiers, and even classic cars! Additionally, on Independence Day, many people wear red, white, and blue in commemoration of their freedom and may hang a flag from their house.
In Washington DC, there is a special annual concert performed called A Capitol Fourth. During this concert, the National Artistic Achievement award will be presented to Reba McEntire for her contributions to American music. Can’t be there to celebrate? Tune into the performance right from your living room, which airs on PBS on Sunday, July 4, 2010 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EST.
